This evening just before 4:45 Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department and NAVAC ambulance was alerted to a motor vehicle accident on Southbound 81. Due to multiple callers putting the accident throughout different parts of the highway, Mattydale Fire was alerted as well. NAVAC ambulance was first to arrive in the area to find the vehicle on the Northbound lanes of 81 off the highway. Mattydale squad-4 and Hinsdale units arrived to confirm the dispatch of a car that rolled off the highway, through a fence and onto the bike trail. Mattydale and Hinsdale units worked together to stabilize the vehicle, provide patient care and packaged the patient utilizing rope, a 24ft extension ladder and stokes basket to bring the patient back across a ditch in order to safely bring the patient to the ambulance for further evaluation and transport.
